Occasionally your guinea pig may come across an insect in its home and decide to nibble at it. With a number of insects that can invade hutches and cages, this isn’t a surprising thing.
Can guinea pigs eat insects?
So if your guinea pig comes across and insect, is it okay for guinea pigs to eat insects and will they do any damage to them?
It depends on what the insect is. If it’s an ant then nothing will happen. They won’t care for them much as guinea pigs are herbivores and won’t take to them.
However, insects like bees and wasps will do them damage as you can imagine.
So if guinea pigs do happen to eat an insect then it should be fine but your piggie will soon let you know if it has caused it harm. Do take care to keep an eye of them to ensure that they are okay if you suspect that they have been bitten in some way.
On another note, you shouldn’t feed insects to guinea pigs purposely though as they aren’t really to a guinea pigs taste.
Stick to hay veggies and fruits.
